316 marine-grade stainless · Custom measured
Hinged Security Screen Doors
The front door you can finally leave open - to the street trees, the porch light, the evening.
Hinged Security Screen Doors from Daylight Steel are $2,475 per door, installed - one flat published price, across all 39 Orange County communities we serve.
The everyday door
Your entry, open all evening
The front door is where a house breathes - and in most homes it stays shut all day. A hinged Daylight Steel door changes the default. The main door stands open from breakfast to bedtime; the screen door handles everything else: the breeze passes through, the dog watches the street, you talk to whoever knocks without unlocking a thing, and the mesh - woven 316 marine-grade stainless - quietly makes the question of "is the door locked?" stop mattering.
Every door is fabricated to your exact opening, not trimmed from stock sizes. The frame is powder-coated aluminum in architectural colors that sit naturally against stucco, Craftsman trim, or modern steel-and-glass; the mesh reads almost invisible from a few feet back, so your entry looks like an entry.
Hinged is one of four types we build - see how it compares to sliding, French, and window screens in our guide to the types of security screen doors.

From your side of the mesh
Inside, you look straight out
This is the photograph we get asked for at every measure: what does it look like from inside? The answer is a view. The mesh reads like lightly tinted glass from your side, so the walkway, the street trees, and whoever is knocking stay in plain sight while the door itself stays locked steel.
The physics is simple: the dark woven mesh sits closer to your eye than anything it could obstruct, and the light outside is brighter than the room behind you. Outside looking in, the same geometry flips - daytime privacy comes free. More install photos are in the gallery.

Questions
About hinged doors
Will a security screen door fit my existing front door?
Almost always. Hinged doors mount to the exterior of your existing frame and are custom fabricated to the exact opening, so out-of-square older openings, wide entries, and most sidelight configurations are all workable. The free measure confirms fit before anything is built.
Can I still use my front door normally?
Completely. Your existing door is untouched and operates exactly as before. The screen door adds a second, independent layer - and once it is in, the main door tends to stay open from breakfast to bedtime while the screen does the work.
What do the locks look like?
A slim lever handle with a multi-point lock: one turn throws stainless bolts at the top, middle, and bottom of the frame. It reads as a nice door handle, not a security device, and it keys separately from your main door.
How much does a hinged security screen door cost installed?
Any standard single entry in Orange County - front door, side door, or kitchen door - is $2,475 installed. The price is flat and published, and the written quote at your free measure says the same number. Genuinely oversized or arched openings get a straight custom quote before anyone visits.
How does that compare with other published security door prices?
Closely, and the hinged door is the product where the category clusters. As of August 2026, Boss Security Screens publishes security screen doors starting at $2,500 on its Orange County page and $2,500 to $3,500 on its national pricing page, while its separate national cost guide gives $2,350 to $2,650. Our $2,475 sits inside that band, which is the honest position: we are not the cheapest door in Orange County and we do not claim to be. The difference is that $2,475 is the number on the written quote rather than the number a range begins at. Every published price we could source, by product and by company, is in our Orange County price report.
Does a security screen door actually let a breeze through?
Yes, and the comparison that matters is not against an ordinary insect screen, it is against the solid door you currently keep shut. A closed entry door moves no air at all. Woven mesh is a screen, so air and light pass through it, which is the entire reason the main door can stay open from breakfast to bedtime. What we will not do is print an open-area percentage. Vista does not publish an aperture figure for this mesh, and we are not going to invent one for a page. If you want the honest test, stand at your open doorway on a spring evening: that is the air you are buying, minus a woven screen.
Will a security screen make the room darker?
Less than people expect, and far less than the closed door it replaces. It is a woven screen, so some light is intercepted, exactly as an insect screen intercepts some. We do not publish a light-transmission number for the same reason we do not publish an aperture: we have no sourced figure and will not estimate one. What we can tell you is the direction of the effect. Rooms that previously sat behind a shut door gain daylight rather than lose it, because the door is now open.
Can people see in from the street?
Not the way they can through an open doorway. In daylight the outside is brighter than your hallway, so from the sidewalk the mesh reads like a light window tint and the inside stays indistinct, while from inside you look straight out. After dark with the lights on, that reverses, exactly as it does with any window. The practical answer most people land on is a lamp placed away from the door.
Can I leave it closed and locked while the main door stays open?
That is the whole design. The screen door carries its own multi-point lock and keys separately from your entry door, so the entry door can stand open all evening while the opening stays locked. It is why people describe the change as getting a room back rather than adding a security product.
Will it look like a jail door on the front of my house?
No, and this is the objection we hear most. There are no bars: the security element is a fine woven mesh panel inside a slim powder-coated frame, so from the curb it reads as a dark screen door rather than as hardware. The frame comes in 10 standard architectural colors at no upcharge, verified against Vista's range as of July 2026, so it is normally matched to your existing trim rather than left to contrast with it. If the look is your main hesitation, ask at the measure to see the real color samples against your own trim before you decide.
