The Orange County security door price report

Security-screen prices are surprisingly hard to find in public - most of them exist only inside written quotes. So we did the reporting: we gathered every security-screen price published on a company or dealer page serving California, normalized them by product type, and put them next to our own flat numbers. This is the one page that treats what these doors cost as a question with an answer.

How we built this (and its honest limits)

We first collected, in July 2026, every installed security-screen price we could source to a named, checkable web page - competitor pricing pages, brand cost guides, and dealer cost guides - and grouped them by product: hinged door, French pair, patio slider, and window screen. We did not phone for private quotes, and we did not include any number we could not attribute, and we re-read every competitor page again in August 2026 rather than reprinting the July figures. Two limits worth stating plainly: nearly every published figure is a "starting at" or "approximately" price rather than a final one, and the clearest data point of all is how few companies publish anything. Several established Orange County installers - California Security Screens, Pacific Screen Doors, and Clear View among them - list no price at all as of July 2026, routing every inquiry to a free estimate. The absence is the finding.

The published-price spread

Every competitor cell below is quoted as published, with the source and date. Read them as each company frames them - mostly "starting at," which means the real installed price lands at or above the figure shown. Daylight Steel's column is flat: the price is the price.

Sources. Re-read and re-verified in August 2026: the Boss Security Screens OC pricing page (bosssecurityscreensoc.com, prices stated there as "just an approximation"), the Boss Security Screens national pricing page (bosssecurityscreens.com/pricing), and the separate Boss national cost guide (bosssecurityscreens.com). Those three surfaces publish three different starting figures for the same products, which is why each is listed by name rather than blended into one number. Checked July 2026 and not re-read since: ClimatePro's Crimsafe cost guide (climatepro.com, updated June 2026, a Northern California dealer, so a different market) and Peninsula Mobile Screens (peninsulamobilescreens.com). Daylight Steel figures are our own published flat prices. Competitor numbers are their published "starting at" figures and may change; we re-verify on each refresh.

What the spread actually tells you

Line the numbers up and three things stand out. First, the serious stainless-mesh installers cluster in the same premium band - a real hinged security door in Orange County is a $2,000-and-up product, not a big-box $200 one, and anyone quoting far below that is selling a different thing (a decorative grille over insect mesh). Second, the ranges are wide because the numbers are floors. A hinged door published at "from $2,000" and one published at "from $2,500" may land at the same place once the opening is measured; you cannot tell from the teaser, which is exactly why the teaser is published instead of the price. Daylight Steel's $2,475 is not a floor - it is the figure on the written quote.

Third, the one product where we sit clearly below the pack is the patio slider, and the August 2026 re-read sharpened why. The earlier version of this paragraph guessed that the higher slider figures elsewhere were describing bigger openings than ours. Read at the source, one of them is not: the Boss national cost guide publishes $4,500 to $5,000 for a two-panel sliding glass door, which is the same standard opening our $2,675 covers, and it lists three and four-panel openings separately with no figure at all. The real driver is that slider pricing in this category is quoted by panel count, so the published number is a floor that climbs, while ours is one flat price for the standard two-panel opening with genuinely oversized and multi-panel walls quoted individually before any visit. How to read a "starting at" price

A published "starting at" price tells you where a product line begins, not what your door will cost. The real number still arrives with the in-home quote, sized to your specific opening, finish, and configuration - that is the standard model this category runs on, and it is worth understanding when you budget. Treat a starting figure as a floor, not an estimate.

We publish flat prices for a simpler reason: a comparison should be something you can make from your own couch. How to read any security-door quote

Whatever you are comparing - our number against Boss, Crimsafe, or the company down the street - normalize the quotes before you judge the price. This is the checklist we would use on our own quote:

• Installed or door-only. A bare-door price leaves measuring, delivery, fitting, and haul-away on your side of the table. Every price in this report, ours included, is installed.
• Flat or "starting at." If the number can move after a visit, it is a floor, not a price. Ask what would make it change.
• Mesh alloy, in writing. 304 or 316. Near the Orange County coast the alloy is the whole game - see our 316 versus standard mesh guide.
• Warranty terms on paper. What the coverage includes and excludes. Ours is a 10-year manufacturer powder-coating color warranty on mesh and panels; 1 year on hardware, in writing with every quote.
• Who installs. Employees, a dealer's crew, or a subcontractor - and who is accountable if the fit is wrong.

Run every quote through those five questions and the cheapest-looking number often stops being the cheapest. That is the entire reason this report exists: not to be the lowest price in Orange County, but to be the one you can actually check. Does any of this change by city?

Our prices do not. One number per product, installed, everywhere we work, and the written quote at the free measure matches it. Worth knowing is that the market around you does vary, because the companies quoting against us do not all cover the same ground:

• On the coast, from Newport Beach through Huntington Beach to Laguna Beach, expect more quotes to carry a coastal or marine upgrade line. Ours does not - the 316 alloy is what we fit everywhere, at the published price.
• In the master-planned south county, Irvine, Mission Viejo and Rancho Santa Margarita included, the HOA packet matters more to your timeline than any price difference does.
• In north county, Anaheim and Fullerton heritage homes produce the most non-standard openings, which is where "starting at" pricing tends to move the most after a visit.
