Why does 316 stainless matter more here than elsewhere?
Because Newport Beach air carries real salt, every day, and salt is merciless to lesser metals. 316 is the marine grade - the same specification used for deck and rigging hardware on the boats in the harbor - with added alloying that resists exactly this kind of corrosion. Screens made of ordinary steel or aluminum slowly stain and pit near the water; 316 simply goes on being bright.
Will a security door look heavy on a coastal contemporary home?
